Conflict mediation – an alternative to sanctions

At Højmarksskolen and Østre Skole social pedagogues are employed to help pupils and teachers in difficult conflict situations. Their efforts have contributed to the fact that the schools have started changing their attitudes towards conflict resolution and the schools have obtained more methods of how to handle problematic pupils.

An object lesson in aesthetics

The Kingo School in Slangerup is an excellent example of an aesthetic educational environment. Here you will find a good indoor climate combined with the consideration for sustainability and a good spatial finish.

Forget who is the guilty one

Pupils are capable of more than you think. They can learn to mediate in other pupils’ conflicts. Forget who is the guilty one – any conflict has at least two responsible persons.

Peer mediation from the pupils’ view

A group of peer mediators at Hjortespring Skole has received tools for conflict resolution so that they can help their younger school friends solving conflicts. The peer mediators take care of a lot of the conflicts that arise in the every day life between pupils from 0th to 5th grade. The result is development of valuable social competences for both the peer mediators and for those who get the help.

When strong feelings create conflicts, school mediation is the solution

Peer mediation is a fixed part of the conflict resolution tools at Ranum Skole. Since peer mediation was implemented, the number of long conflicts between the pupils has decreased as many conflicts are solved via mediation before they escalate. In practice, this means greater well-being and hereby better possibilities of optimum learning for the school’s pupils.

With the hammer in one’s hand

At Ballerup Ny Skole, the pupils and teachers work in a project oriented manner in learning solidarity. This also means that the pupils are allowed to use the hammer when redecorating or embellishing.
